Curved and flexible displays are not
unusual. We saw a basis of these products from companies such as Samsung and
LG. Now focus of tech giants is concentrated on emerging OLED-screens.
For example, Nokia and SEL (Semiconductor
Energy Laboratory) recently showed two emerging prototype OLED-displays. Sizes
of the two screens were 5.9 inches. Both of them offer HD-resolution of 1280 x
720 pixels with a pixel density of 249 ppi. The first prototype is able to bend
like a book, becoming smaller in size by half. The second display has the
ability to bend in the three places.
Data flexible OLED-displays are built on the basis of white OLEDs with different color filters (WOLED-CF). For the production of such displays SEL decided to use layers of OLEDs and color filters, which are superimposed on a glass substrate. In the future, the process of their production going to improve, and instead use a flexible glass substrate. These displays are capable of bending at the two (2 mm) or three (3 mm thick) layer. According to SEL, currently displays more than 100,000 withstand flexion.
